The first all micro-unit building constructed in Boston, and the largest micro-unit building in the United States at the time of completion, 1047 Commonwealth Avenue was originally envisioned as a way to address the affordability issue for graduate students and young professionals living in Boston. Currently being utilized as student housing, the complex was converted from an office building into 180 micro-unit apartments, ranging in size from 340-370 SF. Amenities include a lounge, library, and fitness center among its communal living features, as well as a public courtyard, a sixth floor sky terrace, and a large roof deck with views of the city skyline.
Designed by Neshamkin French Architects, the 90,000 SF building was constructed by adding four additional floors to an existing two-story structure, and includes 2,900 square feet of retail leased to Caffé Nero. Located across the street from the MBTA Green Line, 1047 Commonwealth Avenue earned a Walk Score of 91 and is located in the heart of a bustling city neighborhood with abundant shopping, dining and entertainment options.
